How to Enjoy a Healthy Holiday Season
How to Enjoy a Healthy Holiday Season
The holiday season is an exciting time to gather and celebrate, but it can also be a difficult time to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. Prepare for the season by considering how to support physical and mental health and stay accountable to health-promoting habits.
To promote physical health:
Eat immune-boosting foods that contain nutrients such as vitamins A, C and E, protein, zinc and probiotics. Check out some simple immune-boosting snack ideas including Chia Seed Pudding and Hummus.
Exercise regularly. Physical activity has a significant effect on immune health. Stay active during the winter season by choosing a winter activity such as indoor basketball or hiking, inviting friends or family to be active together or exercising at home without space or equipment.
Improve sleep quality by creating a sleep oasis at home.
To promote mental health:
Eat mood-boosting foods that contain nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids. Taste our recipes for Citrus Salmon, BBQ Pepitas and Edamame Salad.
Make social connections. Invite a friend to participate in a volunteer opportunity.
Identify tools to cope with stress. Consider strategies such as reading, walking, meditating or listening to music.
Have a healthy and happy holiday season!
